The heart and patriarch of our family, Dionicio Castaneda, was mercifully gathered into our Lord’s arms and taken to heaven on Tuesday, August 8, 2017. There to meet him was his beloved wife, Virginia and his son, Dionicio Jr., who preceded him to eternity.

God blessed us with our incredible father for 94 years and he lived each of those years with meaning and purpose. Born in Tivola, TX, Dad learned early that working hard and loving God was essential in living a good life. He worked many years as a maintenance man at the Nueces County Courthouse where he was loved and admired by co-workers. Unable to pronounce his name properly they nicknamed him “Jack” after his hero John F. Kennedy. Going on to have a family of 11 children, he worked hard and endlessly. He always embraced responsibility and never ending devotion to his family, who would always be his life and purpose.

Survivors, who will always carry his legacy include his sons and daughters, Lupe Castaneda (Esther), Richard Castaneda (Bertha), Rey Castaneda (Annie), Janie Rodela (Jesse), Yolanda Reyna, Diana Garza (Elmo), Robert Castaneda (Mary), Rudy Castaneda (Alice), Patsy Valdez (Jimmy), and Esther Hinojosa (Roy). Also surviving him are Norma Castaneda, widow of his deceased son Dino and Adela Gonzalez, a longtime friend and companion. He also leaves behind 33 grandchildren and 54 great-grandchildren.

We bid you farewell daddy. Your life was a testimony to all that is good and righteous in this world. Thank you for all the lessons learned. We will love you always.

Visitation will be held at Memory Gardens Funeral Home on Friday, August 11, 2017 from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 pm that same evening. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at 10:00 am at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church with interment to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
